Spread hope with the 2020 CANSA Shavathon

Once a year, fundraisers and CANSA employees set up booths at various shopping centres and businesses throughout the country for their annual CANSA Shavathon.

The Cancer Association of South Africa does outstanding work in raising awareness and funds to support cancer survivors, patients, and their loved ones.

The destructive and often fatal disease leaves not only physical scarring and changes, but damage to a person’s emotional state as well. Going through treatment is never easy, and the risks of the disease spreading or returning is ever-present. For those who support their loved ones in their struggle with cancer, there are just as many emotional scars; whether they be from the stress, the worry, or the hurt of losing someone they love. That is why CANSA offers support programmes not only for patients and survivors, but for their families too.

Once a year, fundraisers and CANSA employees set up booths at various shopping centres and businesses throughout the country for their annual CANSA Shavathon.

People can support the cause through spray-painting their hair, shaving their heads, donating their ponytails for wigs or even just making donations. Donations to do this are R50 for adults and R25 for children under 12 years old. The theme for the 17th national Shavathon is ‘Hope.’ Spread a little colour and hope by standing in solidarity with your community in the fight against cancer.

On 29 February the CANSA booths will be at several malls, including Cresta and Randridge Mall from 9am to 3pm.

If you would like to stick more to the West Rand, a CANSA team will be at Silverstar at the Hotel Entrance on 6 and 7 March. The Shavathon will run from 9am to 6pm on the Friday and 10am to 6pm on the Saturday.

Selfie boards are also available to share the fun and action with others while creating awareness of cancer and the need to support cancer survivors, patients, and their loved ones.
