Delfos chasing Premier League success

Club aiming to finish the season strong with more victories

Backing up their status as the highest ranked cricket team in Roodepoort, Delfos Cricket Club’s first eleven were at their efficient best on Sunday, 23 February. Soweto Pioneers were the visitors to Cecil Payne Stadium for a Premier League A fixture but they left empty-handed after a ruthless display with bat and ball by their hosts.

Soweto Pioneers were first to bat and posted a humble 111 all out in just under 32 overs. Katleho Leokaoke top scored with a battling 31 not out as his partners fell around him with alarming regularity. Glen Adams and Alex Kok were chief tormentors of their visitors with four and three wickets respectively. Adams shone brightest with figures of 4/ 20 in 5.3 overs, making easy work of Soweto’s tail.

Adams would then continue what would be a great day for him as he notched 33 runs on the way to closing out the run chase with his captain Kevin Bennett. Delfos would take just 27.2 overs to reach the target while losing only two wickets, finishing on 117/ 2. Currently sitting fourth on the log the team will be hoping to put together a strong finish to the season.

Winning the league may be a step too far but the season can still be considered a success with a few more victories. Captain Kevin Bennett has a firm pathway in mind, saying, “We need to win our remaining five games to end up second on the Premier League table. Old Eds has a nice gap at the top.” A quality performance from a quality club, Delfos are on a mission to push to the very end.
