Blame it all on Eskom

When is this incompetence, mismanagement and don't-care attitude going to stop?

In the area I reside in, load-shedding ended at 12.30pm but, as I travelled along Voortrekker Road, which is an extension of Ontdekkers Road, I noticed to my dismay that the street lights were on (in broad daylight!) Why were they on at 10.15am, wasting electricity, while there was load-shedding in surrounding areas?

When you report this matter to the local authorities, you only waste your time as you are given a pathetic answer, “Sorry, I can’t help, phone Eskom”. When is this incompetence, mismanagement and don’t-care attitude going to stop?

It took the Roodepoort City Council from October last year to 7 February this year to replace two street light globes in Nieshout Street, Wilro Park, after many of the residents in the area had reported it numerous times. Every time you phone, you get a different reference number and you don’t get an answer when you ask the name of the person you are speaking to.

Another case of mismanagement is the problem of potholes. They are becoming bigger and bigger and even more dangerous with all the rain we had. Take a look at the road behind and next to the Wilrogate Shopping Centre. When you drive around, not during the lunch break, you will see people in orange overalls sleeping in the shade, instead of doing what they are supposed to do, like cutting the grass and maintaining a healthy environment.

What has happened to Roodepoort, once known as the Garden Suburb?
