Head-on taxi collision injures fourteen

Mostly children being transported to school among the injured

The law of averages would propose that taking daily chances should inevitably lead to that luck running out. Taxi drivers are not immune to this and two drivers testing the limits fell painfully short on Wednesday, 19 February.

Just before 6am a school transport vehicle and a commuter taxi collided head-on along Darling Road, Bram Fischerville. Images from the scene suggest that one of the vehicles was travelling in the incorrect lane into oncoming traffic. The angle of the collision also suggests that little was done by either driver to avoid striking the other, instead choosing a bonnet-to-bonnet stand-off.

A total of 14 injured passengers were reported, with the children being transported to school in the vast majority. Shawn Herbst, Media Liaison Officer at Netcare 911, confirmed, “Medics assessed the scene and found that 11 children and three adults sustained minor injuries. Once treated the injured were transported to hospital by ambulance for further assessment.”
