Plan for your future with the High School Career Expo

SABC Education is sticking true to their slogan, "Enriching Minds, Enriching Lives,” with the 2020 High School Career Expo.

High school affects each person differently. It can be daunting for some, exciting for others, or even seem tedious to a few learners, but no matter what your opinion of high school, it helps shape your future.

SABC Education is hoping to provide insight to primary and high school learners about their education and their future with the 2020 High School Career Expo.

The exhibition is set up throughout South Africa on different days and encourages the attendance of soon-to-be high school learners, current high school learners, and their parents.

Different aspects of the exhibition cater for different learners. The younger learners and their parents are provided with guidance with choosing a high school and selecting subjects, and the older learners are given guidance on further education and career paths.

The expo partners with various schools, tertiary institutions, private sector businesses and government officials to create the most informative exhibition they can. Primary school learners and their parents can find out more about public and private high schools, including their special programmes, extracurricular activities and admissions criteria. Parents can find out which high school is most suitable for their child’s future.

Representatives from a wide range of universities, universities of technology, colleges, and other tertiary institutions attend the event to meet with prospective students. Learners are also able to meet with specialists in different fields (both locally and internationally) to gain insight into their potential professions.

The event runs over two days and hosts discussions, presentations, and interactive programmes to help learners make educated decisions with regard to their future.

Learners who would like to study at tertiary institutions are also given advice on how to secure bursaries and student loans. The older learners can get advice on how to manage their finances when they leave home, or if they are just living away from home during school terms.

The expo also hopes to help matric learners with the ever-present question, “Should I take a gap-year or not?”.

The national tour will be making a stop on the West Rand on 21 and 22 February. The venue is Clearwater Mall from 9am to 5pm on both days and is free to attend. A few of the many institutions that will be exhibiting are:
