The word of the day for 20 November is: Communication.

The word of the day for 20 November is: Communication.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines ‘communication’ as the imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium.

Communication is essential to the success of any relationship, whether it be personal or professional. Without it, problems cannot be solved, ideas can’t be shared, and compliments or criticisms cannot be given or received.

Effective communication is knowing what to say, how to say it, and when to say it.

Plato said, “Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.”

An extremely important thing to remember is that communication is just as much listening as it is speaking. And we need to actually listen to what is being said and take something away from it, not just hear to respond.

Rania Al Abdullah said, “We are stronger when we listen and smarter when we share.”

We also need to remember that not everyone is the same, or has the same viewpoint. So we need to be accommodating to other beliefs and viewpoints and come to common ground.

Tony Robbins said, “To effectively communicate, we must realise that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and must use this understanding to guide our communication with others.”
