Patients sustain serious injuries in two separate accidents

No fatalities reported but life support needed

Paramedics were kept busy yesterday, 12 November, as they attended to serious accidents at opposite ends of Roodepoort. A delivery bike driver was knocked down and a light motor vehicle collision left several injured in Witpoortjie and Florida North respectively.

Just after 10am in the morning, paramedics responded to a collision between two light motor vehicles on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Ontdekkers Roads, in Florida North. The occupants of both vehicles required serious medical attention before being taken to hospital.

Ross Campbell of ER24 confirmed, “The driver of one of the vehicles, believed to be in his 30s was found to have suffered serious injuries and treated with Advanced Life Support interventions before being transported to a private hospital for further care. The driver and passenger from the other vehicle, a 54-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman, were also seriously injured in the incident and also treated with Advanced Life Support interventions before being taken to a private hospital in Krugersdorp.”

In a separate incident, at roughly 1pm, a McDonald’s delivery driver collided with a JRA vehicle on the corner of Ham Street and Corlett Avenue, Witpoortjie. The occupants of the JRA vehicle were unharmed but the delivery bike driver sustained serious injuries. Alett Reed of Emer-G-Med confirmed the bike driver’s condition, saying, “At first he was unresponsive but we did stabilise him. He has sustained multiple leg fractures and will be taken to a nearby hospital.”
