Lions Club Wilro Park goes global

Lions Clubs gather in Wilro Park to welcome International President

The Lions Club Wilro Park opened its doors to the Lions Club International President, Dr Jung-Yul Choi, on Thursday, 30 October. Currently on tour in South Africa, the 42-year Lions veteran was accompanied by Hastings Chiti, the former Lions International Director, and his wife Norah.

Dr Choi’s love affair with the Lions Club began in 1977 when he joined the Busan Jae-Il Lions Club in Busan, South Korea. From there Dr Choi went on to dedicate his life to the Lions’ cause, accumulating honour after honour. Most notably, Dr Choi is the recipient of the Senior Master Key Award and the 100% District Governors Award. He has also served on 11 committees as a member of the International Board of Directors.

Several platters and a fully stocked bar were on hand to keep the gathering Lions well nourished. Lions members from clubs across Gauteng were in attendance, some coming from as far afield as Midrand, Krugersdorp, and Alberton to meet the International President. An opening address by 410 E District Governor, Alistair Tuckett, preceded the main speaker. Tuckett highlighted Dr Choi’s lengthy list of achievements before handing the floor over to their guest of honour. Dr Choi spoke about his relationship with his wife, Seung-Bok, who is is a driving force in his life. This is a common thread within the Lions Club as many families are multi-generational members. This continuity and dedication is key to continued success, as the spirit of charity is passed on from parent to child.
