I sincerely want to give an enormous thank you to God and to the following people who assisted at the collapsed cable scene on Lange Avenue in Quellerina on the afternoon of 9 October.

My lovely neighbours Marilese, Lindy and the gentleman (unsure of his name) and his wife a few houses further down, together with myself, managed to prevent a life-threatening hazard/ electrocution or multi-car pile-up disaster when an electric cable snapped and fell across the road. A motorcyclist was almost decapitated as the cable collapsed, dangling dangerously low. We quickly placed our bin in the middle of the Road, Marilese fetched her orange cones and we directed the traffic (approximately 20 or so vehicles).

A gentleman arrived and closed off Lange Avenue in one, then later in both directions. The ward councillor, Philip Kruger arrived and immediately arranged for a City Power truck to come assist at the scene. Two vehicles from Beagle Watch Security also stopped and assisted us to slow down traffic. Later on, Bruno from the Florida North, Quellerina, Bergbron, Northcliff (FNQB) Community Policing Forum arrived and further assisted.

Other neighbours patiently assisted by phoning the municipality. We also want to thank Mafoko Security.

Had it not been for the collective heroes’ quick and caring response and very brave hands-on safety intervention that afternoon, there probably would have been injuries and possible loss of lives.
