Asteroid set to wreck New Year’s parties

Beautiful dresses and tragic costumes may go unworn

Perhaps you are struggling to finalise your epic plans for this week’s New Year’s bash, or just can’t find that perfect outfit to see in 2020. Fear not, for NASA tells us that an asteroid could render the next few days null and void.

An asteroid with a diameter of 1,2km is set to pass the Earth today and the unluckiest of deviations could place us in future museums next to the dinosaurs. Carrying the terrifying moniker ‘Asteroid 2010 GD37’, the supersonic space rock could hit our beautiful planet with the force of 260 billion kilograms of TNT.

That said, refined projections estimate the impact probability at less that one thousandth of a per cent. There are later dates where the asteroid’s impact probability could be higher, but that is not until 2093.

Planning your adventures for the New Year’s Eve celebration can be tedious, but keep searching for that perfect outfit, because 2020 is inevitable and is something we should be excited about.
