Water restrictions for City of Johannesburg

Water restrictions will be enforced by fines to consumers who fail to comply with the Water Services By-law.

All of South Africa is embracing the start of the spring season, but with the heat increasing already and summer fast approaching, the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) would like to remind all residents that Level 1 water restrictions are still in full force.

Conservation of the water supply is imperative in ensuring the continuous supply of water, and avoiding the limitations of reservoirs due to the demand exceeding the supply. Residents are also reminded that the City of Johannesburg relies on provinces that feed into the Vaal Dam system for our water supply, and as a result, should always be mindful about their daily water usage.

Level 1 water restrictions state that:

• Watering of gardens with a hosepipe is not allowed between 6am and 6pm during summer months (1 September to 31 March)

• Residents are not allowed to wash paved areas, driveways, roofs or vehicles with hosepipes

• Residents are requested to report all leaks

Water restrictions will be enforced by fines to consumers who fail to comply with the Water Services By-law. Consumers are urged to report non-compliance to the JMPD 24/7 hotline on 011 758 9650

Residents are urged to continue reporting all burst pipes, leaking water meters and open hydrants to 011 375 5555/ 086 056 2874 (call), 076 333 5052 (SMS).

Residents can visit the Johannesburg Water website and social media pages to report issues and get more information: https://www.johannesburgwater.co.za, @Jhbwater (Twitter), or Johannesburg Water (Facebook).
