Roodepoort Theatre to hold Mandela Day celebrations

On the day, 400 children are expected to come and enjoy themselves by watching a movie in the auditorium and playing on the jumping castles.

 

As part of the nationwide Nelson Mandela Day celebrations, the Roodepoort Theatre will bring joy, happiness and laughter to a group of less-fortunate children by hosting a fun-filled day for them on 21 July, from 8am to 1pm.

On the day, 400 children are expected to come and enjoy themselves by watching a movie in the auditorium and playing on the jumping castles.

The children will also take part in face painting, transforming their faces into butterflies, cute cats and dogs.

Stages – the Theatre Restaurant will spoil the children with sponsored treats such as sausage rolls, ice-cream, sweets, snacks and milkshakes.

Youth and community groups will be offered a platform to showcase their talent in music, poetry, dance and drama.

The groups that will be performing include the Young Voice Academy and Purge Media, and all the entertainment will take place on the mobile theatre truck where the best performers for each category will receive prizes.

The state-of-the-art entertainment truck has a fully equipped stage, functional dressing rooms, and a powerful PA and sound system.

The Department of Health in Region C will conduct voluntary screening for high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and HIV/Aids.

Other organisations and department that will be partnering in this event include the South African National Blood Services, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, the Emergency Medical Services and the Fire Department.
