Natalie is helping the less fortunate through donations

The needy will benefit by receiving needed items, mainly clothes.

Natalie Swart, a resident of Witpoortjie, has seen a need to start a donation campaign, which she has called Witpoortjie Community Help, for the less fortunate.

Having many contacts in the community through her use of social media, where she created warning groups to alert fellow residents about the issues affecting the community, she realised that many people in the area are in need.

“This is the result of the the difficult times we live in, especially with the high cost of living. There are lot of people without basic means to provide for their families, but by this campaign we can create a culture where what might be ‘worthless’ to me can mean the world to someone else,” Natalie said.

The less fortunate will benefit by receiving needed items, mainly clothes.

“There are many contributing factors and I believe that if each of us can take it upon ourselves to make a small difference, people’s lives can be influenced in a positive manner,” she said.

“I would love to see this initiative as a place where those in need can ask for help without being judged, and I would like to expand it to more than just providing clothes, as many people tend to throw away general household goods that can be reused. Time will tell us which direction this initiative will take, but rather be doing something than nothing,” Natalie said.

She quoted one of her favourites quotes by Winston Churchill, who said, “We make living by what we get. We make life by what we give.”

Anyone who does not have the funds or means available to buy clothes qualifies to get the donated clothes, and although the items are not new, they are still in a good enough condition to be used.

She pleaded with the community to make sure that they are really in need of the items instead of just taking them, because they are free.

“I want to ask people to be considerate before asking for a donation. They should ask themselves if they really do need it or do they want it because is free. There is a massive difference between needing and wanting.”

The Record has also learned that there are enough items ready to be donated to approximately 15 people, including babies, children and adults.
