7 schools in Roodepoort received a donation from Cashbuild

The building material vouchers totaling R105 000 were handed out to the seven winning schools

Roodepoort Primary School and six other schools recently each received a massive prize from Cashbuild, as a result of a competition aimed at uplifting underprivileged schools in Roodepoort.

The schools were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition and their prizes now allow them to improve their school facilities.

The schools each won a voucher to the value of R15 000, which was handed out at the opening ceremony of the refurbished Ontdekkers store. The vouchers, amounting to R105 000 in total, were handed out to the seven winning schools, while the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dancing and theatrical performances.

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and will remain on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.

The other schools were Khaselihle Primary School, Harry Gwala Primary School, Horizon View Primary School, Princess Primary School, Tshepisong Primary School and Onkgopotse Tiro Primary School.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 18 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 3 200 schools in Southern Africa with building materials to the value of more than R40 million. The Art-at-Heart competition is a Southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region’s most needy schools.

“We are truly honoured to win this money for our school. Roodepoort Primary School takes pride in its arts and culture learners,” said Roodepoort Primary School’s Drama, Music, Dance and Visual Art teacher, Len Keith.
