Much-needed funds raised for Floroma

All monies raised will be used to buy a generator for the Home

Visitors to Floroma Old Age Home’s annual mini-fete were spoilt for choice, as it had something on offer for all.

According to Natasha Calitz, a member of the Fundraising Committee, the mini-fete is one of two fundraising events they host during the year, and she said, “It forms part of our initiatives to raise money for a variety of projects for which our normal day-to-day budget is inadequate. This year’s main focus is to raise money to upgrade the general security of the home and to procure a generator for the Frail Care Centre.”

Braam van Gerve, Piet Combrinck, Leon Pretorius (back), Kallie Calitz and Leon du Plessis from the Chilly Trench Shellhole, braaied the boerewors for the rolls.

She added that the Home does not have an emergency generator and with the power grid being unstable they have experienced challenges in supplying back-up power to the Frail Care Centre and kitchen.

Natasha was very pleased with the turnout on the day and said, “We had to start the day’s activities a bit earlier, as visitors could not wait to get their hands on some of the products on display. Our pancake, boerewors rolls, vetkoek and mince as well as the cakes and puddings were all sold out well before lunchtime!”

They also drew the raffle winners, who were very happy with their various prizes.

Natahsa Calitz, Doreen Joubert and Levina van Wyk manned the cake table.

Natasha also thanked everyone for their support, as well as the various sponsors who ensured they had enough mince for the vetkoek, cakes and puddings aplenty, as well as prizes for the raffle.

“A special mention needs to go to those community members who gave of their time to work at the pancake stall. Not only did they supply all the ingredients for the pancakes, they also donated all the proceeds of the day to the Home,” said Natasha.

The next fundraising event will be the fete on 2 November.
