Constantia edges Welties to progress to semi-finals

Constantia Kloof Primary School edged Weltevreden Park Primary School by eight runs to progress to the semi-finals.

The rivalry between the U/13 cricket sides of Weltevreden Park and Constantia Kloof Primary Schools continued on Thursday, 20 September in a must-win game for both schools.

Over the past few years, the two schools’ level of cricket has become all the more even. This time, the two teams faced off in a match in the B12 Jhb West League, the winner of which would progress to the semi-finals of the league.

The schools once again played at Welties, and Constantia went in to bat first. They were able to post a very competitive total of 117 for six in 20 overs, and hoped to restrict an in-form Welties batting lineup.

Constantia did just that as they dismissed Torgan Pretorius for only seven runs. The rest of the Welties lineup failed to fire as they struggled to stick to the run rate. A brief nine-ball cameo worth 18 runs from Ethan Ashley showed signs of hope, but he was caught before he could make any further inroads.

Welties’ top scorer, Kye Blake, also showed signs of life at number nine, but he wasn’t able to carry them over the line as it was too little too late. Welties needed 15 runs from the final over if they wanted to progress, but only managed six. This secured an eight-run victory for Constantia to progress to the semi-finals of the B12 Jhb West League.
