Future Nation Schools brave the cold for Madiba

All campuses participated in the inaugural event

Parents and learners from the Future Nation School in Fleurhof joined the inaugural 2018 Nelson Mandela School SleepOut, which was hosted at their Lyndhurst campus.

Learners, parents and teachers from all three campuses – Fleurhof, Randburg and Lyndhurst – participated in the event, which is empowered by the Liliesleaf: For The Tomorrow Trust.

Participants spent the night outdoors, developing sincere empathy for vulnerable communities in the process. They were proud to have had the opportunity to take part in this year’s Mandela Day and be part of the Nelson Mandela School SleepOut.

Learners were also asked to contribute sanitary towels, grocery packs (canned food, condensed milk, maize meal and more), toiletry bags (deodorant, face cloth, toothpaste and toothbrush), and any form of stationery, for donation to underprivileged schools.

Mampho Langa, the Head of Schools, said, “It was great fun for our learners and teachers to spend the time together on campus, in honour of Nelson Mandela. This experience will really teach our learners to be more aware of social conditions and situations around them in their daily lives. We are hoping that this experience will not only awaken our learners to the needs of those less fortunate, but also encourage them to become leaders who take action to alleviate poverty in our country.”
