No response to 10111 call

Exactly the same thing happened to another man on the same evening.

The 25-year-old Florida resident, Kaashifah Thomas, feels let down by the police, and Florida Police in particular.

On 14 July at about 11pm she was travelling home from Bosmont after dropping off her fiancée. At an intersection near Donovan McDonald Old Age home a gun-wielding man, flanked by two other men, jumped out of nowhere just after she had switched her lights on bright. The man fired shots, which Thomas said she did not know whether he was aiming at her or was just firing warning shots of sort. She accelerated and drove over a traffic island to an Engen garage nearby. There she called 10111 but her call was dropped. She then tried calling 122 and asked to be put through to Florida Police Station. Again after telling her story the call was dropped.

Meanwhile, exactly the same thing happened to another man on the same evening, but he had more luck as the police responded to his call. But by the time they arrived the suspects were gone.

“I feel cheated and let down by my local police station and the men in blue in general,” said Kaashifah. She plans on taking the matter further and will most likely report it to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.

The Record is in the process of obtaining comment from Florida Police Station.
