Hamberg Dam’s contamination has been fixed

Water in the Hamberg Dam was being contaminated and a possibility existed that water running through to Florida Lake would kill fish.

The water contamination problem at Hamberg Dam that was killing fish, has been resolved.

Ward 84 councillor, Gert Niemand, has confirmed that the sewerage spill, which had been ongoing for months, has been fixed.

This comes after resident Marcellus Fynn raised his concerns about the water in the Hamberg Dam being contaminated and a possibility of that water running through to Florida Lake and killing fish.

“For now it seems as if the problem has been solved, as there are no more visible sewer spills and no new fish deaths have been seen. It is an ongoing issue that is monitored on a daily to weekly basis,” Niemand.

Residents are urged to report matters such as burst water pipes, water outages, sewer blockages, dysfunctional meters, fire hydrant leakages or bees found in meter boxes to Joburg Water via customerservice@jwater.co.za, or by SMSing 082 653 2143 or 0860 56 28 74.

Joburg City Parks matters, such as fallen trees, and grass cutting in parks, cemeteries or open spaces, must be reported to jcp@jhbcityparks.com or 0860 56 28 74.
