More serious allegations against West Ridge High School

Document sent from an internet café.

It seems the rot at West Ridge High School runs deeper than first thought, if the allegations contained in a document in the Record’s position are true.

The two-page document was sent from an internet café in Florida by a group that just calls itself ‘Disgruntled Educators’ . In it, the authors give 14 reasons for the problems at the school. It seems that the group is in favour of retaining the principal, Sydney Mashige.

The allegations sketch a picture of deeply divided factions at the school. Some factions are aligned with Mashige, others according to trade union lines and others with individuals with their own nefarious agendas. Educators who are allegedly behind the disruptions in classes and the go-slow the learners embarked on last week, are named in the document. Individuals who are using dirty tricks while vying for their positions are also identified. The group names educators whose classes are failing and alleges that one Head of Department is not qualified for his position. They also allege that the teacher in question often smells of alcohol.

The Record will go into more detail once we have obtained comment from the Gauteng Department of Education.
