Taking photos could prevent crime

WJ van der Zel from Wilro Park writes:

Your headline “Fed-up community takes streets back” and the article were excellent.

It made me think of an extension, namely encouraging all citizens to take photos at all times. Everybody has a cellphone and taking a photo does not cost anything. Take photos of people, places, anyone walking down the street and any van, truck or whatever is happening. Take photos of traffic lights out of order, bad parking and events of any sort.

The “bad apples” will not like it and hopefully will move away. Video any suspicious activity from afar.

This will prevent crime and if you have taken a particular photo that you feel maybe important send it to the Roodepoort Record or the crime-fighting WhatsApp groups for filing centrally.

Most cellphones, apart from the date and time, include GPS locations and the resultant central database of photos may be very useful for tracking a lost item or a criminal event.
