Meet the DA candidate for the Ward 85 by-election

Sonja Meyer is the DA's candidate for Ward 85

Three candidates have made themselves available for election in the upcoming Ward 85 by-election, that will be taking place on 23 May from 7am to 7pm.

The second candidate is Sonja Meyer from the Democratic Alliance.

Sonja has been a proud Kloofendal resident for the past 17 years and is very active in her community. She is a volunteer at the animal rescue organisation, Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora), where she helps to raise much-needed funds, and also gives freely of her time to support abused, lost and neglected animals.

She obtained her insurance qualification through the University of South Africa (Unisa) and is working as an Insurance Risk Manager in the engineering and construction sector. Sonja has also been an active member of Gauteng Women in Insurance since 2015.

“I want to be the platform between our community and the City. I have a passion for our community, and, as a councillor, I want to be there for all residents,” she said.

She added that, should she be elected as the new ward councillor, the residents will be her first priority. She said, “I will be in constant communication with all residents, and will ensure they are kept informed of issues and solutions that might happen in our ward. I will represent all our residents in Council, to ensure everyone will receive only the best services. I will also work with the police and stakeholders to ensure the open, green spaces, as well as the Kloofendal Nature Reserve, remain protected.”

Special votes at voting stations, as well as home visits, will be conducted on 22 May, from 8am to 5pm.

Voting stations that will be open on Election Day are:

• Die Gereformeerde Kerk, Phillips Avenue, Discovery

• Laerskool Horison, Weaver Street, Horison

• Biokinetic Centre, Phisant Street, Helderkruin

• Lebogang Crèche, Plot 61, Princess
