Today in History: Prince died in 2016: examine the numbers behind his career

Renowned singer and musician, Prince, died on this day two years ago. Have a look at some of the astounding numbers that saw him become one of the greatest ever.

Known for his electrifying work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant fashion sense, use of makeup, and wide vocal range, Prince Rogers Nelson was born on 7 June 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He would become known to the world simply as Prince and would experience a career like no other.

Prince had numerous singles and albums chart at Number 1 around the world, and also went on several sell-out tours.

Some of his most well-known works include, but most definitely are not limited to Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, 1999, and When Doves Cry.

Prince passed away suddenly on 21 April, 2016, suffering from a fentanyl overdose that was ruled as accidental. However, in the years since his passing, many eyebrows have been raised over the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police have mentioned the possibility of bringing criminal charges pertaining to the star’s death.

Prince was cremated after an autopsy which ruled that he had died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl at the age of 57.

He was posthumously inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame.
