Well done Treshaun
He landed the fourth position in long jump at the National tournaments.
10-year-old Treshaun du Plessis made it through to the National Athletics Tournament in Paarl, Western Cape on 9 March, and put Discovery Primary School on the map in the process.
Treshaun, who’s in Grade 5, took part in the athletics for the very first time this year and his newly discovered talent took him further than he thought he would go.
According to his coach, Claudette McLean, Treshaun took part in the long jump, high jump and 100 metre sprint items at the school athletics for the first time. He qualified for the Cluster meeting on 7 February where he came first in the long jump item. He then qualified for the District meeting, known as the Roodepoort Athletics Championships, which was held at Ruimsig. Treshaun also made it through the Gauteng championships, and finally placed fourth in the long jump at the National Athletics Tournaments.
“Treshaun is my little Springbok. It was an absolute pleasure training him. I am very grateful that he went this far, considering the fact that it was his first attempt at athletics this year,” said coach.
Treshaun said “I am mostly inspired by my support structure, who are mainly my parents and my coach. They motivate me to do my best. Whenever, I’m down they are always there to pick me up.”
“I am proud and happy for my son, I will always be there for him and give him all the supports he needs,” said his mother, Denizay du Plessis.
“Treshaun has made history by achieving so much so quickly in athletics. He made the school proud,” said school principal, Raymond Peters.
