Discovery Bowling Club hosts fun day
'The event was a great success'
The Discovery Bowling Club’s Roll it to Win it event was their first ever obstacle event, and it was quite a success.
According to Marie Wagenaar from the club, the aim of the day was to introduce the sport to non-bowlers, and show them that it is not just a boring sport, it can also be a fun sport that offers a lot of competition.
The day started with every participant being selected for a team and Marie explained, “Everyone had to write their names on a piece of paper. To make up a team of four, we drew names and assigned them to a specific team, which consisted of one experienced bowler and three non-bowlers.”
She added that the day was a definite success, and the community could expect more of this kind of event to take place over holiday periods. “I just want to thank everyone who came out today and supported us, it was definitely a fun day with a lot of team spirit. Even though it was not just smooth sailing, and we had to iron out some wrinkles, we achieved what we wanted,” Marie said.
The day’s activities were concluded with a prize-giving and lunch and then some of the participants tried their hand at singing some karaoke.
The club boasts members from as young as 12 years old, and also has quite a few Protea players. “We have social bowls on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Friday nights we have club nights, and that is usually great fun,” she said.
“We would love to welcome new members, and anyone is welcome to join us. We would like to get the community involved more, and grow the sport, especially under the youngsters,” Marie said, smiling.
