Wilro Lions inducts new member

'Being a Lion runs in my family'

The membership total at the Wilro Lions has recently increased, as they inducted a new member during their general business meeting.

Patience Mutonhora, who was born in Zimbabwe, said that being a Lion has always been part of her life, and explained: “My late father was a Lion in District 412 (Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe) and I was part of the Leo Club when I was younger. I have always loved to serve and wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps, because he set such an amazing example.”

She added that she thought that she had struck gold when she passed by the Wilro Lions’ clubhouse one morning, and said, “I stopped and wrote down the contact number, and immediately phoned to find out how I could become part of the Lions club. Sandy (van Heerden) was so friendly and helpful, and invited me to visit the club and see what it is about. I was so glad to have found a club basically on my doorstep!”

Patience added that being a Lions club member is very special to her, as it enables her to live our her passion to serve those who are less fortunate. “Being part of the Lions club helps me to help a wider community. When there is a need, they do not first ask if you are a member, they immediately jump in and help, there are no restrictions or limitations,” she said.

Patience was inducted by the District Governor for 410B, Ian King, who said, “It is a highlight in every District Governor’s year to induct a new member, and, even though I have inducted many, everyone is unique, because everyone’s reason for joining is different. It is truly a privilege.”

Rajes Naidoo, the Wilro Lions Club President, was very happy to gain a new member, and said with a big smile, “I have known Patience for a few months now, and I can honestly say that she has always been willing to help, no matter the project. She has fitted in very well, and did not wait for someone to tell her what to do.”
