Lions Club gives itself much-needed exposure at popular mall
Different structures that make up the club exhibited their projects at Clearwater Mall.
Hundreds of patrons at Clearwater Mall were encouraged to become a Lion or at least support the global leaders in community service by making a donation to one of many amazing initiatives conducted by the Lions Club on 17 March.
Different structures that make up the club (Clearwater Cyber, Weltevreden, Wilro Park, Helderkruin, Krugersdorp, Roodepoort and Rustenburg) brought awareness to the mall, demonstrating what they do.
Lions Club President Denise Easton explained that they feel that a lot of people do not know what the club does, and that they needed to bring it out into the public’s eye. “So I approached the mall and asked to hold an awareness morning,” she said.
After being approved to exhibit at the mall, Denise went on to explain what each club represents. “Each club showcased their favourite project. For example, Clearwater Cyber is very aware of the plight of the rhino – so they are very involved with the environment. Wilro Park shows their love for children with cancer, while Helderkruin does a lot of work with sight-impaired members of our community by buying a guide dog every year,” she said.
The Lions Club was established in 1917 and serves as an international organisation. “Our motto is ‘We serve’. We feel that where there is a need, there is a Lion,” Denise said, adding that the awareness project was a success, as she had several inquiries.
