Roodekrans resident shot dead during home invasion

Wife and kids locked themselves in room.

This past Friday night (23 February), a former police officer and Roodekrans resident was shot dead during an armed house robbery.

The incident happened at about 11pm on Chroom Avenue when Andrew du Plooy went to let the dogs out and realised there were men in the yard. Du Plooy attempted to get back into the house but was shot in the upper stomach. His wife and children managed to lock themselves in a room. After unsuccessfully trying to get to Du Plooy’s wife and children, the robbers fled with a laptop, TV, handbag and other smaller items.

At the scene Netcare 911 paramedics applied advanced life support interventions to Du Plooy, but to no avail. He was declared dead on the scene.

On Sunday residents paid tribute to Du Plooy in a drive-by memorial, leaving flowers in front of his house.
