HWA raising funds to help school sport

Community entertained at Laerskool Florida

The wrestlers from Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) recently climbed into the ring for a good cause.

They hosted a show at Laerskool Florida as part of a fundraising project to help raise money towards the school’s sport activities during the year. The show consisted of three exciting matches, including one where two of the teachers had the opportunity to showcase their wrestling talents.

The opening match between The Protector and The Ripper was an entertaining one, with The Protector flying from one corner to the other, outsmarting and countering each one of his opponents moves. The Protector looked like he would bag an easy victory, until The Ripper cheated behind the referee’s back, frustrating the learners. When The Ripper was awarded the victory by a pin fall, boos and jeers rang out.

With the announcement of the second match’s participants, an excited murmur ran through the crowd, as they could not wait to see two of their favourite teachers stepping into the ring. Matt Snyman challenged Marinus Meintjies during morning assembly, and the challenge was accepted, to much delight of the learners. Marinus – wearing a rugby outfit – was the first one to enter the ring, ready to face his challenger, who was dressed in a Superman outfit.

Amidst loud cheers and encouragement from the crowd, the two teachers showcased some wrestling moves they could only have learned from watching WWE on television. They were diving, flying and somersaulting in an attempt to secure the all-important win in front of the adoring crowd, and, in the end, Matt’s moves were judged to be superior, and he was awarded the special title.

The main match was between Steve Eden and Dirty Jackson, and as the wrestlers walked to the ring, it became clear who the crowd favourite was, as Dirty Jackson received quite a cold reception. The match was marred by dirty tactics used by Steve’s opponent, and every time it looked as if he would win the match, Dirty Jackson would bend the rules, grinning at the crowd after getting away with each one. But, his attitude got the best of him when he stood on the top rope and told the crowd how good he is, because that was when Steve Eden saw his opportunity. With a superplex from the top rope and an Eden Slam Dunk, Dirty Jackson was defeated, and Steve Eden was declared the winner, with the crowd cheering and celebrating.

The evening’s proceedings were concluded with a dance for the learners.
