Princess residents launch neigbourhood watch

Residents afforded the opportunity to create a safer community

Residents from Wards 71 and 85 recently gathered excitedly at the Princess Soccer field to celebrate the launch of a much-needed Neighbourhood Watch.

“The team, led by chairperson Anthony Malhiba, was established to help the residents of Princess create a safer living area for themselves. Residents were encouraged to join the neighbourhood watch, and ensure they are part of the solution to the crime problem,” said René Benjamin, councillor for Ward 71. She added that the team, consisting of men and women, were determined to turn around the current situation in the area.

Police Captain Sonja Prinsloo also attended the launch, and assured members of the community that the police are fully behind the initiative and would be offering the patrollers their full support.

After thanking the community for their attendance and eagerness to support this newly formed neighbourhood watch, René used the opportunity to inform residents about the resignation of Ward 85’s councillor, Carl Mann, and said,

“Residents from Ward 85 needing assistance with issues are welcome to contact me, and that applies to Ward 71 residents as well.”

She concluded by encouraging residents to attend the public meeting that will be taking place on 10 February at the Witpoortjie Community Centre from 9am.

The councillor can be contacted on 072 263 6496, 076 363 5584 (WhatsApp), Facebook (Ward71.joburg) or by sending an email to rene@ward71.joburg.
