10 January is National Peculiar People Day, a day specifically created for those who believe it is not bad to be extraordinary.
Many people believe that normal people set the world in motion. However, it has been shown time and time again not to be entirely true. Whenever there has been a significant change in the world, it has mostly been at the hands of someone who refuses to accept things as they are. They challenge established ideas and overturn age-old conventions. They look for the horizon in every field and bring joy by breaking the rules that define “a normal and healthy life”.
National Peculiar Day was designed to celebrate a certain kind of person – the one who is just a little out of sync with everyone else. It can be someone who has a peculiar and strange way of speaking, an antiquated style of dress or someone living as if in an era ages past. They may be cosplayers or part of the Star Wars Fandom, or, maybe they play an unusual instrument or practice an odd religion. This day is their special day.
To celebrate National Peculiar People Day, you can start off by celebrating those in your life who are already strange and unusual. This day is the perfect opportunity for you to give that one friend – who always adds a little spice to your life, ensuring even the most normal event is somewhat offbeat – some recognition and appreciation.
If you are one of the peculiar ones, today is also your opportunity to let your hair down and fly your freak flag high. Don’t allow anyone else to tell you what is appropriate and normal; go out there and shake up the world with your unique personality.
Remember, it is always the peculiar ones who change the world,- so get out there today and let your inner oddball loose!
