Add some whipped cream on #NationalWhippedCreamDay

5 January is National Whipped Cream Day, the perfect opportunity to add something special to your dessert.

Whipped cream does not only add creaminess and a bit of pizzazz to a dessert, but can be the difference between an ordinary, everyday dish or a celebratory one.

National Whipped Cream Day celebrates the contribution made to the dessert world by whipped cream. This holiday falls on the birthday of the Reddi-wip founder Aaron Bunny Lapin who invented it in 1948. He was born on 5 January 1914 and died on 10 July 1999.

Whipped cream is often sweetened and comes in a variety of flavours, including vanilla, coffee, chocolate, orange and many more. Chantilly cream or creme Chantilly is sometimes used to refer to whipped cream.

Whipped cream – known as snow milk or snow cream – has been used in recipes since the 16th century, and was often sweetened and aromatised. In these recipes naturally separated cream was whipped with willow or rush branches. From time to time during the whipping process, the resulting foam on the surface was skimmed off and drained. This process was a long one, usually taking an hour or more. Although the English name, whipped cream, was coined early in 1673, the name snow cream was still used throughout the 17th century.

To celebrate National Whipped Cream Day go online and search for some delicious recipes using a variety of whipped cream flavours. Some recipes to try include making whipped cream frosting, chocolate mousse with coconut whipped cream and many more.
