Quelling the rumours

Relative thinks City Power will use rumours 'as excuse'.

A family member, who has asked to remain anonymous, but who is supporting Melanie Kruger, said that since the death of her son Ruan, all kinds of rumours are circulating, but their origin is not known.

He said he wanted to quell these rumours, as he believes that City Power will use them to shrug off responsibility for the incident. He asked to categorically address each of the rumours, which he said are “utter nonsense”.

• “Ruan wanted to commit suicide” – According to the relative and Melanie, nothing could be further from the truth. He was a happy young man in the prime of his life. He did not suffer from depression or any other mental health issues,” they both said.

• “Ruan has been watching the culprits for weeks and was waiting to pounce” – “This is not true. Ruan took leave to work on his art. From his room he could not even see where the connections were made,” said Melanie.

• “Ruan tried to cut the wires” – “When Ruan was found he still had the pliers in his pocket, so he did not cut the wires. They were not cut when he was found,” said the relative.

• “The empty beer bottle next to his body was his and he was drunk” – “We looked at the bottle. It was old and full of dust,” said Melanie.

• “Ruan tried to pick up the wires with both his hands” – “The way he was lying makes this impossible. And in any case, Ruan was very technically skilled and went along when the connections were disconnected on many occasions. He knew exactly how to do it,” explained the relative.

• “He cut the wires and tried to roll them up” – “Again, he was too skilled to have done this,” explained the relative.
