Jogger’s death is under police investigation

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the station.”

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Florida Police Station following the tragic death of a female runner on 3 December.

This athlete, believed to be in her 30s, and a member of the Roodepoort Athletics Club, was jogging on Hendrik Potgieter Road when she was knocked over by a vehicle.

Spokesperson for Florida Police Station, Sergeant Mpho More, confirmed to Northsider that an investigation was underway.

It is still unclear at this stage what led to the tragedy, but More indicated that determining the cause formed part of the investigation.

ER24 paramedics were called out to the scene at approximately 5pm, but when they arrived at the scene, they saw the woman was unresponsive.

After assessing the patient, the paramedics realised they could not do anything to save her life, and she was declared dead on scene.

“One of the passengers in the vehicle, a teenager believed to be 16 years old, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment,” said Annine Siddal, ER24 spokesperson.

A member of the deceased’s running club indicated that a member will be visiting the family soon.

A detailed version of this story will be published in this year’s final edition of the Roodepoort Northsider.
