Local studio’s students excel throughout the year

The Morgan Moss Karate and Sports Conditioning Centre has had an incredible year, as 120 of its students have excelled to the extent that they could compete globally.

The Morgan Moss Karate and Sports Conditioning Centre has had an incredible year, as 120 of its students have excelled to the extent that they could compete globally.

The students, mostly karateka, earned prized medals, trophies, and titles began in their 2017 challenges to become recognised international champions. They represented their club and country in more than eight tournaments and achieved the following amazing results:

WKF Junior and Cadet World Championships, Tenerife, Spain

These four students have been selected to represent the Junior National All Styles Team (Proteas):

• Danielle Van Wyk

• Jayden Duncan

• Jonathan Duncun

• Reece Baynes

World Goju Championships, Bucharest, Romania

Thirty-three students were selected for the South African Goju Ryu Team, but only the following 24 were able to go due to funding issues. They brought home three gold, six silver and six bronze medals:

16th African Karate Championships Seniors and 8th African Karate Championships Juniors Ladies/ Men

• Morgan Moss (gold medal, African Champion)

• William Ash (gold medal, Junior African Champion)

• Danielle van Wyk (bronze medal)

WKF World Youth Cup, Umag, Croatia

Tese three students represented the Junior National All Styles Team (Proteas)

• Dino Belfi (silver and only South African to win a medal at the WKF Youth World Cup)

• Justin Baynes

• Reece Baynes

Karate South Africa National Championships

These 11 National Champions (Karate South Africa – All Styles) competed and won a total 31 medals.

West Rand Regional Team selection

• Forty-seven students were selected for the West Rand Regional Karate Team

Gauteng Provincial Team selection

• 42 athletes were selected for the Gauteng Provincial Karate Team
