Heartwarming visit to Ons Huis

Community remembers its filial responsibilities at retirement home

Ons Huis Retirement home in Florida had heartwarming visitors this weekend. The Bergbron Reformed Church, Winners in Christ–Kids, Children’s Prayer Network and the leaders of Laerskool De La Rey spent time with the senior citizens. The children went door-to-door at the retirement home, handing out food packets and magazines as well as praying with some of the residents. There were smiles and laughter whichever room the children visited, brightening up everyone’s day.

Nicole Le Pere and Arietta van Popering.

Martie Ackerman, who is heading up the initiative, said she was happy the children gave some of their time to a community-building project.

“We are here to spend time with the senior citizens, giving them love and support. Everyone came together and helped as much as possible to get the packets ready. I have learned that it is nicer to give than receive, and that is what we want to teach our young children,” she said.

Maria Mitchell and Maritza Volschenk.

The initiative became a reality due to the assistance of Ligtyd, Freshline and PC Link as well as Lizelle Jansen van Vuuren and Chriselda Fourie.
