The De Lange family has been through a rough time, but it seems that their fortunes are changing.

After the Record reported on Ryno and Annemarie de Lange, the response from the community has been overwhelming.

“I am so grateful – after the article was published, we received so much assistance from the community. It is unbelievable!” a very emotional Annemarie said.

The past week has been quite stressful for the family, as they were living in constant fear of being left homeless, as well as worrying about five-month-old Dominique’s first surgery to repair his hare lip and cleft palate. “Dominique was admitted to hospital on Tuesday, 22 August, and had to undergo a three-hour operation. Although he had an initial negative reaction to the anaesthetic and showed signs of swelling, we were able to take him home on Thursday, and he is recovering well. We want to thank the Smile Foundation for making it possible for Dominique to live a normal life,” said Annemarie.

But that was not the only good news the family received – they were also able to move to a new home during the weekend. “Ryno’s boss has given us the opportunity to use one of his houses that is empty at the moment. Although it is a small step, we would have a kitchen, sitting room as well as a dining room.

The children will also be able to play outside, as we will have our own yard,” she said, smiling.

Another big development that had the family almost reduced to tears was the news that Solidariteit Helpende Hand will be assisting them, not only with food and clothing, but also with things they will need to move into the new house. “We will also be offering them support for the next three months,” said Adéle Kruger from Solidaritieit.

Ryno and Annemarie want to convey their heartfelt thanks to all the people who opened their hearts and offered them assistance. “We are so grateful and humbled. We appreciated every act of kindness we received. It just goes to show, there is still a lot of caring people out there,” they said emotionally.
