Baby tragedy: House allegedly visited by authorities

Former employer makes shocking revelation.

According to one of the complainants, three members of the Child Protection Unit (CPU) and two members of Child Welfare visited the house yesterday (24 August) where the parents of the deceased baby live.

The complainant could not confirm the rumour that the occupants were told that the CPU and Child Welfare would return today (25 August) in order to drug-test all the occupants. It is alleged that more than 10 other adults, as well as more than 10 minors, live on the property alongside the parents of the deceased baby. All the complainants told the Record that drug use in the house is rife and that drug dealers occasionally plied their trade from the house.

Meanwhile, former employer of the mother of the baby, Marie Nortman, told the Record that the mother did not want the baby. “At one stage, while she was pregnant, she told me ‘I wish this f*****g thing could get out of my stomach’,” said Nortman. Nortman is the mother of Alice van der Walt, the first complainant to speak to the Record.
