A run-away truck can cause havoc

Concerned resident of Georginia writes:

I write this letter with great concern for our public roads and the residents of Georginia.

24/7, trucks travel through our suburban streets at speeds over the limit, yet an 80km/h speed limit sign is stuck on them.

They travel up and down with a double trailer loaded with sand and then return for more.

When they are travelling through the suburban roads you can hear and see how they fly over the speed bumps that give you an indication that two lanes now become one.

We live a street away from Albertina Sisulu Road and many a night [we hear] sounds like dynamite exploding. These are from the empty trailers, and echo through our precast walls and homes. One false move and these 18/ 16-wheeler trucks will flatten at least six to eight homes that are situated on the main road.

I write to these owners of these trucks, [asking them] to stick to the main roads that are built for this weight and terrain and to refrain from using our suburban roads where schools, churches and small cafés [are located and along which many] pedestrians walk to their destinations.
