Community Fun Day against crime

Fun day at Len Rutter Park.

More than 8 000 residents attended the Family Fun Day that the Discovery Community Forum (DCF) along with main sponsor Leandra Real Estate and Dunmar hosted this past weekend at Len Rutter Park. The communities of Discovery and Florida as well as surrounding areas were invited to join in.

The fun day was the brainchild of DCF’s Hennie Matthews and he approached Leandra van Wyk to assist in making the project a reality. The main purpose of the event was not only to have fun but to raise awareness about crime and safety.

Florida Police station commander Colonel Kgaogelo Seabe, Captain Lydia Dikolomela and Seagent Mpho More gave presentations on the subject. They were joined by the CPF chairperson Riaz Jogee who also stressed family safety. The event had children in seventh heaven with free train rides, free popcorn, balloons and jumping castles.

“We are very happy with the number of people who attended the event. It’s just unbelievable how successful it was.

Everyone I’ve seen was excited about visiting the different stalls and having fun,” said Leandra.
