National Cheesecake Day

Have slice of this delicious dessert on #NationalCheesecakeDay

30 July is National Cheesecake Day, and is celebrated annually by millions of cheesecake lovers worldwide.

Cheesecake is a delicious sweet dessert, consisting of a mixture of soft fresh cheese, cream cheese or cottage cheese, eggs and sugar on a crust made from crushed cookies, pastry or sponge cake.

Cheesecakes can either be baked or unbaked, and come in a variety of flavours, including blueberry, strawberry, pumpkin, chocolate, key lime, lemon, orange, raspberry or toffee, and are often topped with fruit, fruit sauce, chocolate or whipped cream.

There is a possibility that an ancient form of cheesecake may have been a popular dish in ancient Greece. The earliest attested mention of a cheesecake, was made by the Greek physician Aegimus, who wrote a book on the art of making cheesecakes.

In 1912, James Kraft developed a form of pasteurised cream cheese. In 1928, he acquired the Philadelphia trademark, and marketed pasteurised Philadelphia Cream Cheese, which is now the most commonly used cheese for cheesecakes.

Celebrate by enjoying a slice of your favourite flavour of cheesecake with some of your friends and family. If you are feeling adventurous, search for a recipe and bake your own cheesecake.

Use #NationalCheesecakeDay to post on social media and encourage others to join in the celebrations.
