City Parks wins two international awards

MMC congratulates entity

The Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) has scooped two international awards at this year’s Cannes Lions Festival in France.

The festival honours the best creative work of the year across the spectrum of branded communication of the world. The winning advertisements were part of the zoo’s advertising series, titled Frog, Snake, Bat and Bird.

The first bronze award was awarded in the category for Outdoor – Billboard and Street Posters, and the second award (also bronze) was in the category for Outdoor – Public Sector Campaign.

The Department of Community Development, which oversees the entity, was delighted with achievement, as it contributes to one of the city’s priorities of providing services with pride to the people of Johannesburg.

“This is a remarkable achievement that proves JCPZ as well as the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) can compete with the best in the world.

Well done to the management and entire team of JCPZ. By winning this award, you have ensured that Johannesburg will be one of the destinations of choice to visit,” said the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development, councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba.

Two other JCPZ parks – Bosmont Park and the upgraded Westdene Park – also received awards at the annual South African Landscapers Institute (Sali). The awards were:

– Sali Gold Award for specialised Landscape Construction (Bosmont Park)

– Sali Gold Award for Design by Others (Bosmont Park)

– Sali Gold Award for Westdene Dam upgrade’s specialised landscape design

– Sali Silver Award for Environmental and Water-Wise landscaping (Westdene Dam)

“Well done to all, and continue to #ServeWithPride,” the MMC said.
