Teacher retires after 37 years
Annelise said she always wanted to be a teacher and loves being around people.
Head of the Culture Department at Maragon Private Schools retired at the end of June after 37 years in the profession. Annelise Botha has been a teacher at Maragon Ruimsig since it opened its doors in 2000. She saw the school grow from a small establishment into the impressive three-tier institution it is today.
Annelise started her teaching career with a higher education diploma from Goudstad Teaching College, specialising in school music. She taught at Laerskool Joubertpark and Eden Primary School in Lyndhurst before accepting the position of Creative Arts teacher at Maragon Ruimsig. She was later promoted to HOD of Culture at Maragon Intersen Phase.
During her time at Maragon, Annelise has been involved in developing the school’s cultural profile in her capacity as organiser and coach of the Intersen Choir, various concerts, Eisteddfods and establishing the Maragon Culture Centre that is bringing music education to individual learners.
Annelise said she always wanted to be a teacher and loves being around people.
“Wow, I finally did it. I will thank the Lord in my heart for the opportunity to have been a teacher and then definitely go out for a special breakfast with my husband who supported me over all these years,” Annelise said.
