National Cheer Up The Lonely Day

Make someone happy on #NationalCheerUpTheLonelyDay

11 July is National Cheer Up The Lonely Day, the perfect opportunity to try and make someone happy.

If you know someone who is lonely or going through a difficult time due to health issues, financial reasons, grief due to loss or other personal reasons, this day was created to reach out to them and cheer them up.

Your small act of kindness can make a huge difference to them.

National Cheer Up The Lonely Day was created by Francis Pesek of Detroit, Michigan as a way to promote kindness toward others who were lonely or forgotten as shut-ins or in nursing homes. His daughter, LJ Pesek, described her father as being a quiet, kind and wonderful man who had a heart of gold. 10 July was Pesek’s birth date.

Celebrate today by visiting with someone over the phone or sending some flowers to that one person you know that needs it. Mailing a sweet or funny card makes for a nice surprise, and can cheer them up considerably. Share a bag of Jumping Jack popcorn with someone, and neither of you will be lonely.

Use #NationalCheerUpTheLonelyDay to share on social media.
