National Smile Power Day

Start the day with a smile on #NationalSmilePowerDay

15 June is annually observed as National Smile Power Day, a day that was created to encourage everyone to share the power of a smile.

It is always better to present yourself with a smile – from the good morning greeting to the first, “How may I help you?” No matter where you are employed, or if you are job-seeking, retired, or looking to expand your horizons, starting the day with a smile is definitely more empowering than starting with a pout or a grump.

It is easier to start with a smile first, than trying to get there later in the day. Even Garfield agrees with this, when he says, “Start the day with a smile – and get it over with.”

Remember, when you smile at someone, you are telling them they are valued and worth the smile you just gave them. Smiles are morale boosters and confidence builders. Research has proven that attractiveness and likability really does increase when you are smiling. Smiling also creates a greater trust and increases interpersonal cooperation.

When you smile at someone, it can relive their stress and at the same time, make you feel good. Smiling – even if you don’t feel like it – will lift your mood and make you a happier person.

Celebrate today by challenging yourself to smile more often during the day – whether at your colleagues, your boss or even a stranger. Use that killer smile to disarm a tense situation or simply smile during your daily tasks.
