Fifteen injured in Newlands accident

No serious or fatal injuries reported

Fifteen people were injured in a collision between a taxi and light motor vehicle at the Ontdekkers and 13th Road intersection in Newlands on the morning of 13 June.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene at 9am, and found both vehicles in the middle of the intersection.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found several people were still seated inside the taxi, while others were walking around the scene. After they assessed the patients, 15 were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately no serious or fatal injuries were reported,” said Russell Meiring, the ER24 spokesperson.

The patients were treated for their injuries on scene, and then transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment and care.

The cause of the accident is not known yet, but local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
