National Donald Duck Day

Celebrate Donald’s birthday on #NationalDonaldDuckDay

9 June is the annual celebration of National Donald Duck Day, a day commemorating the birthday of the funny animal cartoon character.

Donald Duck made his screen debut on 9 June 1934, when he appeared in The Wise Little Hen.

He usually wears a sailor suit with a cap and a black or red bow tie and is most famous for his semi-intelligible speech as well as his mischievous and irritable personality. Donald Duck has appeared in more films than any other Disney character, and TV Guide declared in 2002 that he was one of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all times.

During his second appearance, in Orphan’s Benefit, he was introduced to his comic friend, Mickey Mouse. Donald’s girlfriend – Daisy Duck – along with his nephews, Huey, Louie and Dewey, were introduced shortly after that.

Donald Duck was not only known for appearing in animated cartoon movies – he was also known for his appearances in comic books and newspaper comic strips.

One of Donald Duck’s famous sayings is “Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.”

On Donald’s 50th birthday in 1984, Los Angeles Mayor, Tom Brady, declared the first National Donald Duck Day. To commemorate this day, the world’s most famous duck gave the city a silver statue of himself. He also toured the country leading up to the big Disney birthday party bash.

To celebrate today is easy, just gather some of your friends or family and watch some Disney cartoons featuring the duck of the moment. You can also try tracking down some of the comic books or strips he appeared in to enjoy.
