Food Drive – we need help

The Record’s Food Drive has really made a change in the lives of two families so far, but we desperately want to do more.

Just last week I paid a visit to a family in Hamberg that is in dire need of a place to stay.

They have been evicted from the one bedroom that they have been renting in a house. Although the Record cannot give them a place to stay, we can ensure they are at least fed until they find something else.

Despite our efforts to help, we have received some back-lash about the food drive. Some people say it is not newsworthy, while others prefer to tell me all the negative things about the people.

All the Record is trying to do is to bring a little bit of relief to those who really need it.

Johan and Martie managed to get their lives back together through our contribution and that is great news. Other people might take a little longer, but I am sure you will agree that helping others is a good feeling. Pay it forward, I always say.

But, we need the community’s help again. We have had so many requests from the community to help that we are running out of food.

We require non-perishable food, anything from mealie meal to tinned food. All we ask is that you buy one extra tin of food when you do your monthly grocery shopping, and drop it off at the Record’s offices in Witpoortjie.
