Meter-reading made easy for residents

Customers can now track meter reading dates online

Gone are the days when residents had to guess when their water and electricity meters would be read, as they can now be tracked online.

As part of the City of Johannesburg’s (CoJ) billing regionalisation, it is now possible for customers to check online when their meters will be read and prepare for the meter reader’s visit.

“One of the challenges the city faces when trying to read meters, is that properties are often inaccessible. The online service can assist customers to note the meter reading dates in their areas and make arrangements so their meters can be read,” said Kgamanyane Maphologela, the CoJ spokesperson.

To check your meter reading schedule you need to do the following:

• Visit the CoJ website on www.joburg.org.za

• Click on the e-Service tab

• Enter your suburb name into the search block

• Receive your schedule

Kgamanyane added that, with the billing regionalisation, customers now also have the freedom to choose their own dates on which to pay their municipal accounts. “Customers can choose any date between the 15th and first day of the month. Many have chosen the 28th as their preferred date with the 31st being the second most preferred due date,” he said.

There are a few ways to choose your own due date, including:

• Visit the CoJ website on www. joburg.org.za

• Visit any of the city’s customer service centres

• Phone the call centre on 0860 Joburg (562 874)

• Send an email with your preferred date to duedates@joburg.org.za.
