Biker injured in off-road accident

Paramedics go through bushes to assist patient

Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a remote area in Roodepoort for an off-road bike accident yesterday afternoon.

Reports from the scene indicate that the group of bikers was riding along a trail when the biker came off and sustained serious injuries.

“Paramedics had to meet up with some off-road bikers who gave them a lift with all their equipment so that they could treat the injured man. After arriving at the remote area, paramedics found the man lying on the ground and were unable to get a vehicle close to him. The Netcare 2 medical helicopter was activated to assist with the transportation of the patient,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

Paramedics stabilised the man at the scene and after he was immobilised, had to hike through the shrubs to get to the helicopter. The patient was then airlifted under the constant care of advanced life support paramedics to a hospital.
